  • Manchester United travel to Turin to take on Group H leaders Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Italian giants won the reverse fixture at Old Trafford 1-0 and Jose Mourinho’s side will need a result to stay ahead of Valencia in third place.

Here’s a look at how United could approach the game from a tactical perspective.

Check out Juventus’ key tactics here.

    MOBILE FORWARDS

Romelu Lukaku was an absolute dream for Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci to deal with in the Old Trafford fixture. They comfortably coped with everything in the air and handled the physical battle with the striker well. United must attempt to play down their sides instead, making inroads through the half spaces.

Alexis Sanchez proved a mobile centre forward against Bournemouth over the weekend. Rather than go up against Juventus’ centre-backs, the Chilean can drop off, peel wide or make late runs in behind.

Occasionally, he can also swap positions with Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford to deny Juve’s formidable central defence a specific target man to mark.

    LINGARD ROLE

Juventus dominated the middle of the pitch at Old Trafford, taking control of the game. They did so through fluid positional interchanges between midfield and attack.

United can’t afford to be outnumbered in that area again and Jesse Lingard’s energy and versatility can help. Starting on the right of a front three, the England international can drop back into midfield, just ahead of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic where he can try to limit the time and space afforded to Miralem Pjanic.

Should United get the chance to break quickly, Lingard can facilitate the transition through the middle, driving into space before picking out Rashford or Martial.
