Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti insists his players will not be intimidated by the Anfield atmosphere and he has no intention of sending them out to get a draw.
The Serie A side arrive on Merseyside needing only to avoid a 1-0 defeat or losing by more than two clear goals to progress to the knockout stage.
After holding Jurgen Klopp’s side at bay in Naples they struck an added-time winner through Lorenzo Insigne and Ancelotti is confident they can impose their own game on Tuesday’s match.
“I don’t know what Liverpool are planning tomorrow but we all know about the intensity they play in these games,” he said.
“We haven’t come here to sit back, we’ve come here to play our own game – which is what we have always done.
“There are two important phases in football – attack and defence – and we need to get both of them right.
“Of course it is a big test for us. We know it is decisive. We are playing the last game, we have got this far and have a small advantage going into it.
“To use an analogy, we have already made the cake and we are looking for someone to put a cherry on the cake.”
Klopp has not lost a home European match during his three-year reign, a run of 18 games, and Anfield is famed for its atmosphere on nights such as tomorrow.
However, Ancelotti – who has faced Liverpool as a coach nine times in his career, winning six and losing three and including a defeat and a victory in the 2005 and 2007 Champions League finals respectively – believes his players are up to the task and will not require any motivation.
“I think we can draw on the first game in Naples, it has given us a lot of confidence, and we’d like to put in a repeat performance,” added the Italian, who in his last three meetings with Liverpool has yet to see his side concede a goal.
“I hope my players are positive as they want to play in one of the best stadiums in the the world in terms of atmosphere, having no fear.
“I’m not preparing a speech now but I think it will be along the lines of ‘We need to be happy, we know it will be a difficult, great game but if we can achieve the result we want it will be a tremendous feat’. Basically, ‘Go out and enjoy the game’.”
