  • Paris Saint-Germain gave Manchester United an almighty reality check as a second-half masterclass at Old Trafford all but secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory.

Presnel Kimpembe, who could easily have been sent off for a second yellow card on two occasions, connected with an Angel Di Maria corner. The Argentine then assisted again with a low cross that Kylian Mbappe tucked home.

Mbappe had several more chances to rub United’s noses in it further, and there was more agony for the hosts just before full-time as Paul Pogba was shown a harsh second booking – and will now miss next month’s return leg.

It brought Ole Gunnar Solsjaker’s unbeaten run as interim United boss to an end at 11 games. We have the PSG ratings below:

    PSG (4-2-3-1)

Gianluigi Buffon – Unsettled by United’s high press with ball at feet, particularly early on, but his hands were rarely called into action 6

Thilo Kehrer – The makeshift right-back looks like a star in the making. Nothing happened for United down his side, also sparked second goal 8

Thiago Silva – There’s life in the 34-year-old yet. If not isolated he’s still up there with the best, making clearances in the double figures 7

Presnel Kimpembe – Should not have been on the pitch for his goal. Clumsy doesn’t go far enough to describe ‘challenges’ on Shaw and Rashford 4

Juan Bernat – Should have been a target to exploit on the wing. Held his own while his more talented team-mates did the rest 6

Marquinhos – Limited as a defender in midfield but put a muzzle on Pogba – few have said that of late. Composed in possession, too 8

Marco Verratti – Oscillated between sublime and silly. Took United’s midfield out of the game at times, hit ball into no man’s land at others 7

Dani Alves – Swung in the corner that kicked off the hosts’ collapse but the most impressive facet of his display was his discipline 7

Julian Draxler – Tip of a midfield triumvirate that slowly, yet very surely, turned the screw on the hosts. Drew a couple of key fouls 7

Angel Di Maria – Wasn’t given a moment’s peace by crowd and didn’t give United any after the break. Two assists, seven in total at Old Trafford 8

Kylian Mbappe – Stretched his legs in the second half and opened up body to tease past De Gea. Should have done better with dink  8

    SUBSTITUTES

Leandro Paredes (75′) – Thrown into fray with the job more of less done for PSG, and the new midfield signing did nothing of note 5

Colin Dagba (81′) – Strictly a defensive change with the game, and perhaps tie, wrapped up in place of Di Maria N/A
