  • Running with purpose: A local rugby team will be competing as a way to raise funds for their upcoming Tour to Sri Lanka.

More than 200 people have signed up for the fourth race of GO Sport/ASICS Run Series this weekend but there’s still time to join them ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

Hosted at the Track Golf Clubhouse, Meydan in Dubai this Saturday, the race, organised by Super Sports Events caters for runners of all abilities.

Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced runner, there are different courses to choose from with 4km, 8km and 12km on the agenda.

Categories in the 8km and 12km distances are 18-years and under, 19 to 39 years, 40 to 49 years, and 50 plus.

Those with less experience can compete in the 4km run with age groups for eight and under, nine to 12 years, 13 to 18 years and 19 years and over.

The popular event, sanctioned by Dubai Sports Council and the UAE Athletics Federation, has gone from strength to strength and their previous three races this season have been a huge success.

Saturday’s competition looks set to be no different as Dubai’s Megan Dingle searches for her fourth straight victory in the 4km race.

Eye on the prize: An allexpenses paid trip to Thailand is up for grabs.

“This race will feature the Heartbeat Sports Tigers Under 11 Rugby team along with their family and friends competing as a way of raising funds for their Tour to Sri Lanka at the end of the month so it will have a real community feel to the race day and hopefully they will be well supported by all,” said Warren Van der Merwe, race director of Super Sports Events.”

Additionally, there are some great prizes up for grabs.

“The Track have been amazing in supporting this event and Meydan Hotel have also offered some great prizes for competitors which include restaurant vouchers and complementary meals to Qube Sports Bar,” said Van der Merwe.

“The Asics Run Series forms part of the GO Sport Super Series where all athletes who qualify for a Series Ranking will have a chance of winning an all-expenses paid trip to Thanyapura, a sports training resort in Phuket, Thailand at the end of the season.”

Urban Energy will be among the companies to hit the course, while families of four can take advantage of a 50 per cent discount as part of the Super Sports Events’ drive in attracting more participants.

Entry is Dh100 for juniors and Dh150 for adults. Included in the fee is a medal, prize giveaway, electronic chip timer, sponsors vouchers and refreshments.
