  • Football crazy: Come down to JLT next month to show off your mad footballing skills.

Showcase your talent and see if your team has what it takes to triumph in Sportsmania’s latest five-a-side football tournament in Dubai next month.

So far, team entries have been encouraging but you can still join them ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

The competition starts on Saturday, June 4, and gets under way from 17:30 at Sportsmania in Jumeirah Lake Towers with each team guaranteed a minimum of four games.

Since opening in 2014, Sportsmania has become a firm favourite among residents in the UAE. Their football tournaments have been a huge success, especially their evening leagues, while their ladies five-a-side event, which concluded on Saturday, proved to be a big hit.

And next month’s competition will be no different.

“The summer is here and the sports season in the UAE is winding now but at Sportsmania, we are still busy organising more tournaments including a five-a-side on Saturday,” said Fouad Ghandour of Sportsmania.

“We’ve hosted so many football tournaments, one-day competitions and evening leagues and we have a great turn-out every time. We are very passionate about sport and so are the players and when they enjoy competing in our events, it’s very easy for them to come back.

“We have teams who travel from all parts of the UAE – Fujairah, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, so this shows that the word is spreading of how good we are.”

With trophies and medals up for grabs, there’s everything to play for with team entries costing Dh490.

“We know this will be another great tournament for us,” said Ghandour. “The tournament will be played in late afternoon and will be overseen by qualified referees, be well organised plus they will be playing on great sporting facilities, so there’s plenty of gains.

“We want to play our part in promoting a healthy lifestyle, ensuring people remain fit by playing a sport they thoroughly enjoy. Participation is key even if you don’t win any prizes on the day. Playing football is a fun sport and it’s a great way to meet new people.

“We predict the matches will be closely-fought but most importantly it will be exciting and I’m sure people will enjoy themselves playing in our facilities.”

With a few days to go, there’s still time to register and be part of this experience.
