  • Pathway to success: A number of UAE internationals have emerged from Maxtalent’s summer camps.

There’s no reason for budding cricketers to feel bored this summer with fun coaching sessions and activities lined up at Maxtalent Global Sports’ camp.

After launching in 2006, it is one of the oldest cricket academies in the country and they certainly know a thing or two about what it takes to succeed in the sport, having produced a number of players who’ve represented the UAE national team across different age groups.

And MGS’ experienced coaches will continue to pass on their knowledge to youngsters during the on-going camp until August 27. Al Nasr Sports Club in Dubai, home of MGS, will host the outdoor sessions every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday between 17:00 and 18:30, while the indoor camp will be held at Cover Drive Academy in Al Quoz, with dates and timings still to be finalised.

“We are celebrating our 10th anniversary and we are pleased to have reached this milestone,” said Sudhakar Shetty, head coach of MGS. “Our outdoor sessions have been really popular, with more than 40 children attending. We’ll also have another edition of the two-day Indoor Max Super Big Bash at Cover Drive Academy and this is a great opportunity for people to test themselves in a fun and competitive environment.”

Besides just learning and developing their fielding, batting and bowling skills, Shetty insists there’s plenty of other elements that the kids will learn.

    What, where and when?

“It’s not just all about cricket,” he said. “The youths will do a lot of fitness drills because that’s very important, while they will also be able to do yoga and team-building. We will also be visiting the Shyam Bhatia museum in Dubai where they can be inspired by the memorabilia of signed shirts and bats by some of the legends. The idea of this camp is to keep them engaged during the summer.

“Technology and computer games can be a easy distraction for children but our camp allows them to have fun and be active at the same time. We have many activities here that not many people offer in the UAE.”

Open to all abilities, Shetty insists there’s plenty of advantages by signing up.

“If parents are working during the holidays, this camp is the perfect solution. They will not have to worry about their children sitting at home as they can have a lot of fun playing cricket, while also meeting new friends.”

“There are new people who attend every year and that’s great to see because it shows our camp is highly-regarded and that kids are really enjoying themselves.”
