  • That’s a strike: You’ll be knocking over the pins in no time this summer at the 40-lane venue in Abu Dhabi.

Although the mercury is rising outside it’s still business as usual at Zayed Sports City, where you can showcase your bowling talent and try your luck in achieving that all-rewarding strike.

Since opening their doors in 1999, the 40-lane Khalifa Inter- national Bowling Centre in Abu Dhabi has attracted thousands of people all year round.

And with the hot temperatures set to continue, you can see for yourself why the venue is so popu- lar by taking on your friends and family in a game of bowling.

Whether you want to play in the morning or late at night, the centre is open daily from 09:00 to 01:00, with fees starting from Dh15 per game or Dh110 per lane.

While football, basketball and cricket are among the most popular sports in the UAE, bowling has become a firm favourite. That’s no surprise considering the World Championships were held in 2009, 2014 and 2015 as well as the annual Ramadan tournaments.

“Bowling is one of the UAE’s favourite sports, especially since it is one that can be enjoyed by peo- ple of all ages and abilities,” said Barry Bremner, general manager at Zayed Sports City.

“Having recently hosted the World Bowling Championships we have found that there is a renewed appetite and buzz around the sport. New customers are coming to try it and find themselves coming back because our bowling centre is a great facility where they can have fun, be social, and participate in a physical activity.”

Although it’s home to 40 bowling lanes, there are other activities that will keep you entertained during your visit.

“Many people say they are surprised when they enter Khalifa International Bowling Centre, par- ticularly because of how bright and open the facility is,” he said. “The centre has a number of activities other than bowling such as billiards, table tennis and several popular food and beverage outlets, which means that many customers spend a long time within the bowl- ing complex.

“It’s a very relaxed but fun atmosphere. It’s a venue that attracts people from all nationalities, ages and abilities, and to see so many diverse people participating in the same things is definitely special.”

And Bremner insists not only will it be a memorable experience but there are plenty of positives by playing.

“Bowling is a perfect summer activity that allows you to escape the heat and still stay active. It’s very affordable with games at just Dh15 per person, and this rate includes all of the equipment to get you started like shoes, balls and assistive ramps for kids or people with mobility restriction,” he said. “It’s a great place to spend a day, with other fun activities and res- taurants under the same roof.”
