  • Sweeping success: Corporate Games host a range of fun tournaments and activities.

Showcase your bowling and batting skills and see if your team can reign supreme at the inaugural Corporate Cup of Cricket which gets under way next month.

Entries for the six-week indoor tournament, running from August 21 to September 27, have been encouraging, but you can still join and take advantage of the early bird discount which ends on Monday.

Open to corporates, a maximum 32 teams will battle it out for the top honours at Aktiv Nation in Dubai and tournament director Hussain Badri insists there are plenty of positives for those who sign up.

“Sport is fantastic way to break down barriers in the work place and create working relationships with colleagues you may not normally deal with in your company,” he said.

Organisers Corporate Games are no strangers to hosting fun activities and tournaments. Earlier this year, a football competition was held and after listening to feedback, launched their maiden Corporate Cup of Cricket.

“It is one of the most popular sports in the UAE and appeals to a huge range of people,” said Badri.

“Not more so than indoor cricket which is massively popular among the people in UAE. We have already run a fantastic European Championship replica football tournament this summer, but we always try to add cricket events due to the fantastic response we always have.”

Teams will be split into different groups and play one eight-over match per week between Sunday and Wednesday. The top teams will then advance to the Cup event, while the rest will contest for the Plate title. Each team is guaranteed to play eight matches with individual prizes up for grabs.

With a few days to take advantage of the discount, which costs Dh2,700 until Monday and Dh3,000 thereafter, Badri insists it’s a tournament that corporate cricket players do not want to miss.

“First and foremost, for the opportunity to play cricket at a fantastic venue with other like-minded 32 teams,” he said. “It means we will be having close to 500 cricketers and the opportunity to become the corporate champions amongst all of these teams is a fantastic one. There is also a cash prize up for grabs for the winning team just to sweeten it even more.”

He added: “Everyone is aware of the overall benefits of playing sport and being fit and active. Furthermore, it gives players the opportunity to play eight matches with 11 of their friends and colleagues against new teams from around the UAE.”
