  • Yasalam’s popular Get Driver Fit programme has been doing great work over the past several weeks in getting the community active through a series of free group fitness classes all across the capital; but if you’ve been looking to throw yourself into something a bit more competitive – or would just like to end your GDF experience with a bang – it’s the grand finale this coming weekend that you’ll want to prepare for.

Perfectly located along the Abu Dhabi Corniche, the GDF finale is all set to offer three exhilarating days of competitions, with finalists facing a testing triathlon-style fitness challenge over the weekend, too.

This is unlike any triathlon you’ve done before, though – one that features body-board paddling as the first leg, followed by Fat Bike cycling, and a tricky obstacle course run to finish.

Residents are being dared to step up and take the challenge as either an individual on Friday, or enter the Team Challenge, which is earmarked for Saturday.

Teams (of four) are in for a treat on Saturday. You will relay with your team members to complete as many laps as possible within the 15 minutes dedicated to each station. The team with the highest cumulative number of laps from all three components will be crowned winner.

The water leg is 50 metres in length paddling in front of the crowds on Abu Dhabi Corniche, while the 150m Fat Bike track involves a number of hills, turns and surprise obstacles along the way. As for the 100m Obstacle Course, organisers are confident it will test your limits through a variety of skill stations, including tire tunnels, Irish tables and more.

The individual race the day before is a little different, as in there is no water element, so make sure you’re a strong biker and runner if you’re eyeing the top prize. You lone wolves will be timed for completing three rounds on the Fat Bike track and obstacle course alone.Try your hand at the GDF Obstacle Course.

The course has been designed to suit most age groups, so why not bring the whole family out as a team? There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, including fastest male and female, and even one for the gang with the best team spirit.

“The obstacle course, like the rest of Get Driver Fit, encourages community involvement in healthy active living,” says Reeva Bains, vice president of Marketing & Communications at FLASH Entertainment.

“This obstacle course is suitable for all abilities and will certainly push you to your limits – but the rewards for putting in the effort are huge.

“We want as many residents as possible to gain those rewards with healthy doses of exercise and competitiveness.

She adds: “The obstacle course is the perfect finish to Get Driver Fit and is a must on your obstacle course bucket list! I am very much looking forward to taking part with a team from FLASH.”

There’s more in store for fitness devotees, too, as, aside from the race, anyone can come and enjoy a workout along the picturesque Abu Dhabi Corniche at Muscle Beach in the GDF Fitness Zone from Thursday, November 17 to Sunday, November 27.
