  • Reach new heights: Push your limits and achieve new goals at Wadi.

With the Wadi Adventure Race (WAR) more than a month away, athletes can begin their preparations for the grueling event with a free fitness training camp.

The 12th edition returns on Saturday, January 14 at Wadi Adventure in Al Ain and those who have competed in previous years will know what to expect from the gruelling event.

Competitors will be pushed to their limits as they tackle a series of obstacles on land and in water at the Middle East’s first man-made whitewater rafting, kayaking and surfing facility.

To ensure athletes are ready for the opening race of 2017, the venue management have arranged four training sessions every Saturday morning at 08:00 from December 17 to January 7.

Since launching in 2012, WAR has gone from strength to strength, attracting hundreds of competitors in each race.

And given there’s the extra advantage of the training camps for athletes to step up their preparations, Nilesh Mistry, general manager of Wadi Adventure in Al Ain, insists it’s an opportunity not to be missed.

“We’re inviting people to be here at Wadi Adventure in Al Ain and witness the biggest and the best of all obstacles races in the UAE,” he said.

“The Wadi Adventure Race is a great opportunity for the fitness community to come together for a day of excitement, fun and a test of true athletic ability, and the free training sessions are the best way to train your body for the great event ahead.

Several obstacles will need to be tackled in the water for the Wadi Adventure Race.

“For those who attend the training sessions, they will be working on a lot of things.

“It will consist of a number of activities including runs, pull-ups, push-ups, mile runs, burpees, squat jump and sit-jumps.

“Also on each of the four weeks, we will have a new trainer overseeing the sessions each week.”

Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, there’s different categories to choose from with 5, 10 and 15km distances on the agenda.

Even if you’re not planning on lining up for the race, you’re still welcome to make the most of the training classes.

“Yes, absolutely. The free training sessions are open for everyone, irrespective if they would like to go ahead with taking part in WAR 12 or not,” said Mistry.

After the tough one-and-a-half hour work-out, you can treat yourself to a healthy breakfast, which must be booked in advance.
