  • To take part in the event, you must sign up by Sunday’s deadline.

More than 500 are set to flock to Al Ain’s Wadi Adventure resort next Saturday for the popular annual event, but there’s still time to join them ahead of Sunday’s deadline.

Now in its 12th edition, it has gone from strength to strength and is now widely known as one of the ultimate obstacle races in the UAE.

While the competitors will be familiar with the course, new challenges await them where they will have to run, crawl or swim their way to the finish line.

“Every year since we held the Wadi Adventure Race, the event has been a big sucess,” said Nilesh Mistry, general manager at Wadi Adventure Park. “In WAR 11, we had 700 people and before that, the number was 650, so it attracts a lot of people from the UAE and GCC countries.

“While numbers have been very encouraging so far, we are expecting around 800 people to take part next Saturday.”

There are three different categories with 5, 10 and 15km distances to choose from.

And whether you’re a newcomer or been competing since their launch in 2012, there’s different group on offer with beginner, intermediate and advanced levels on the schedule.

A series of gruelling obstacles will be present across the three race distances in Al Ain.

Entries cost Dh275 for the 5k, Dh300 for 10k and Dh375 for 15k, while athletes must be 16 and over.

With a few hours to go until deadline, Mistry insists there are plenty of positives for signing up.

“The event is different from all other obstacle races happening in the UAE. The Wadi Adventure Race series is the pioneer of all obstacle races. It is set up in a completely natural, fun environment. Where would you get a chance to run on the sand, below the barbed wires, run on the rafts, jump in the Middle East’s first and only man made surf pool?,” he said.

“Anyone who wishes to ring in the new year with some challenging activities is likely to try their mettle with this race.

“The event is simply going to be amazing as it caters to people from all genres of physical fitness.

“From amateur athletes to fitness freaks, this race is for everyone. Overall, it’s a great opportunity for the fitness community to come together for a day of excitement, fun and a test of true athletic ability.”
