Night and day: Courts are open throughout the day from 10:00 to 23:00.

Sea Breeze Play is the new outdoor facility, giving sports-minded people an opportunity of playing beach volleyball and tennis on their four flood-lit courts.

The courts are open every day between 10:00 to 23:00, and designed to get more people active whether you’re after a social hit, a competitive match or coaching lessons.

It’s a joint venture between Duplays, the leading organiser of recreational sporting activities in the UAE, entertainment specialists Red Events, Rackets Academy and JBR developer Meraas.

“Since we started out 10 years ago, the Duplays mission has been to connect communities through sport, offering a place where people can take up a new hobby, get active and make new friends at the same time,” said Derv Rao, co-founder of Duplays.

“Sea Breeze Play is a great addition to our offering. Whether it’s just being out in the sun having a hit with friends, gaining that competitive edge in one of our leagues or embarking on a team building exercise, Sea Breeze Play has something for everyone.”

Hessa Al Kous, director of events at Dubai Sports Council, under the Hamdan bin Mohammed Community Sports Initiative, added: “The Hamdan bin Mohammed Community Sports Initiative aims to encourage people to participate in sport to help eliminate chronic conditions such as obesity and diabetes and other cardiovascular diseases.

Bump, set and spike: Gather your friends, co-workers and family members for some fun in the sun.

“At Dubai Sports Council we are committed to promoting physical activity, making sports accessible and boosting the health of the emirate’s residents. Our involvement in this exciting new beach sports venue will help us achieve our goals.”

For Amer Salah, of Red Events and Rackets Academy, he is confident Sea Breeze Play will attract big numbers.

“We have a strong commitment in supporting Dubai’s sporting community and through Sea Breeze Play, the newest addition to our Dubai sports portfolio,” he said.

“We aim to expand our offering and provide residents the required facilities for a healthy and active lifestyle. As entrepreneurs with many years’ experience in the UAE, we have identified a need in the market for professionally managed sports activities and we are delighted, under the patronage of Dubai Sports Council, to partner with leading brands such as Duplays and Meraas to make Sea Breeze Play a reality.

“The latest addition follows the recently opened Tennis Complex in MotorCity, and established a Training Academy that already provide unrivalled programmes conducted by accredited coaches.”

Running from Sunday this week in Dubai, it’s a chance for youngsters, aged between four and 14, to learn the basics and develop their skills under the guidance of fully qualified coaches.

Since launching in 2004, IFA has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the best football academies in the UAE. Previous camps have been a huge success and this week’s is set to be no different.

“With over a decade of experience in the region, IFA Sport is the largest grassroots independent sports academy in the UAE with a brand vision to help more kids get more out of sport,” said Tommy Wingrove, technical director at IFA Sport.

“We have been offering holiday camps throughout the year, working with over 1,000 players at various venues.”

He added: “Our football camps are designed to give players the opportunity to progressively develop their football skills in a fun and positive environment. During the camps, they will learn about all areas of the game under the tutelage of the vastly experienced UEFA qualified coaching team.”

“Each day focuses on a different aspect of football with daily themes such as ‘Beat Your Man’ and ‘Take Your Chance’.”

“Players then have the chance to test their skills in structured mini-tournaments as well as undertaking a series of Skills Challenges, receiving comprehensive performance reviews at the end of the week.”

Parents have the option of choosing from two venues with daily registration also available. All Star Sports in Al Barsha will host the camp from Sunday to Thursday, while Emirates International School, Meadows will be another venue from Tuesday to Thursday.

Camps run from 09:00 to 12:00 with prices costing Dh125 per day or Dh500 for the full five days.

Wingrove insists there’s plenty of positives for parents to sign up their children.

“Our camps have become an integral part of our development programme,” he said.

“Players of all ages and abilities have the opportunity to take part in structured coaching sessions designed to challenge and inspire players to improve their game whilst having lots of fun.”

“It also introduces them to the IFA philosophy and provides an excellent platform to recruit players for our advanced Premier and Adastra squads.”

Not for the first time, the skies will be the centre of attention at the Abu Dhabi Corniche this weekend as the capital hosts the opening race of the Red Bull Air Race Championship.

A total of 14 Master Class and nine Challenger pilots begin their quest for glory as the emirate once again experiences the high speed and low altitude action on Friday and Saturday.

But the races are just a fraction of what the spectators can look forward to, with plenty of on-ground entertainment in the free admission Red Bull Air Race Zone Activation.

Situated near Marina Mall, the Zone is open from 16:00 to 23:00 from Thursday to Saturday with skateboarding and BMX shows just some of the activities on the agenda.

Among the athletes on show will be Viki Gomez. The Spaniard has wowed the fans with his mindblowing BMX Flatland tricks and the three-time world champion insists Abu Dhabi will not be left disappointed.

“The Red Bull Air Race Activation Zone is fantastic as it gathers everyone together from the world of Red Bull,” he said. “It is certainly a must to visit the Zone as it’s a great chance to meet people like me in person and take a selfie.

“I’m certainly looking forward to this and I will try my best to make the best tricks and show why I have won the world title.”

Another man who will take to the stage is Petr Kraus. For more than a decade the three-time world champion has been showcasing his trial biking skills at exhibitions and he can’t wait to perform in the UAE.

“I’ll perform most of my skills and I’m sure it will be fun to ride and perform at the Red Bull Air Race Zone Activation,” he said. “I’m very much looking forward to this event and it’s a great place to see different adrenaline sports.”

The season opener will have special significance given it’s the 75th race since the competition launch in 2003. At speeds of 370kph with forces up to 10G, competition will certainly be fierce with Matthias Dolderer the man to beat, having clinched last season’s title.

Hospitality tickets are now available and with previous editions being hugely popular, this year’s two-day spectacle is going to be no different.

“The teams have been arriving with exceptional focus and determination, and the pilots are eager to add their names to the 10-year legacy here by winning this 75th World Championship race,” said Erich Wolf, general manager of the Red Bull Air Race.

“Abu Dhabi is closely associated with the best in motorsport, so you can be sure that the racing will set a high standard for the season.”
