  • Don’t let the grey clouds stop you from entering the final race of the JLL Triathlon series this weekend in Dubai.

More than 200 are expected to flock to the Jebel Ali Golf Resort on Saturday morning but you can still join them ahead of Wednesday’s deadline.

Organisers Race ME are no strangers in organising events of this kind. Their last two races have been a big hit and that’s no surprise considering the multi-sport discipline is booming in the UAE with various community events held throughout the year.

And with the ITU World Triathlon season opener in Abu Dhabi on March 3 and 4, it’s the perfect preparation to see where your game is at.

“It’s a very busy time of the year and it’s going very well so far,” said Paul Venn of Race ME. “We have around 200 people already registered and we are slightly ahead of where we were this time last year.

“With the ITU World Triathlon just around the corner and given it’s the final race of the series, we expect that number to only increase. There will be a lot of people who will be preparing themselves to see what level they’re at before they compete in the ITU competition.”

Whether you’re a first-timer or regularly compete in triathlons, there are different categories including team relays to choose from. For beginners, they will tackle the 375m swim followed by a 10km cycle and then a 2.5km run to the finish line.

For those who want to test themselves further, then the Sprint race consists of the double the distance.

The multi-sport discipline has become hugely popular in the UAE.

With a few days to go, Venn says there are plenty of positives by signing up.

“We get kids as young as 13 racing and some who have never raced before,” he said.

“That shouldn’t stop anyone from taking part. It’s open for all abilities and it’s such a great race. The course is stunning and generally it’s an easy race to do. There’s a real community vibe around it.”

He added: “After the race finishes, there is a breakfast which is included in the registration fee which a lot of people stay back so it means it’s great opportunity to meet new people.”
