Going Out: Get on your bike and take on Ride Ajman

  • Cyclists can rejoice with the return of Ride Ajman, back for a second year with a new and improved edition.

    Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) & Department of Lands and Properties, the event will take place at the beautiful Ajman Corniche on Friday, April 7.

    Following a successful inaugural edition, the community cycle has expanded this year to a 104km route with full road closures beginning from Ajman Corniche and running through the emirate.

    In addition to the longer route, the second Ride Ajman will also feature a dedicated 52km UAE National Development Race for UAE nationals to spark interest and participation, while a 7km charity ride is open to all, with the proceeds donated to Al Jalila Foundation – Ride Ajman’s charity partner.

    There are even cash prizes for the winners in the various race categories, totalling Dh138,000. First, second and third place for male (19-49), female (19-49), junior (16-18), senior male (50+) and senior female (50+) in the 104km Open will earn Dh10,000, Dh8,000 and Dh5,000. respectively.

    Along with the cash prizes, trophies will be awarded to the winners in an awards ceremony and celebratory breakfast following the end of the races.

    Faisal Al Nuaimi, general manager of ATDD, said: “We are continuously looking at innovative ways to promote Ajman as the ideal venue for sports as well as the perfect location for tourists from within the UAE and abroad.

    “This is the second year we will be hosting this fantastic event with full support from the authorities and we will be building on last year’s success to offer a unique race for all cyclists.”

    For those wanting to make a weekend of it and experience Ajman to the fullest, there are weekend room rates provided by the six sponsoring hotels of the event – Fairmont Ajman, Ajman Saray, Ramada Beach Hotel Ajman, Kempinski Hotel Ajman, The Oberoi Beach Resort Al Zorah and The Ajman Palace.

    Registration costs Dh250 for the 104km, Dh200 for the 52km and Dh50 for the 7km, and can be done through www.hopasports.com ahead of this Friday’s deadline.

    Race packs can be collected from noon to 19:00 on April 4-5 from Revolution Cycles Dubai, and from 10:00 to 22:00 on April 6 from Fairmont Ajman.
