In the spirit of Ramadan, Yas Marina Circuit are co-hosting a collaborative community event with a group of Abu Dhabi-based initiatives to celebrate the togetherness of the community and the uniqueness of each of its members tomorrow.
The event, which will be held at Yas Marina Circuit Racing School during TrainYAS by Daman’s ActiveLife, titled ‘Memorable Givings’, will bring together the whole community, including children with mental disabilities and their families, for a fun-filled inclusive evening that promises to be an evening to remember.
The event will bring together people of determination (special needs) and their families with the wider Abu Dhabi community who continue to inspire us every day, which will be free for anyone to attend.
There will be activities for the whole family regardless of age or ability, including yoga, group reading by the stuttering community, solar box assembly, football drills, posture screening and massages, star gazing and a planetarium, as well as a whole lot more.
The community event will begin with a free Iftar supper from 19:00, followed by initiatives which are open to all and will include arts & crafts, educational activities, fitness and well-being initiatives, a photo booth and networking opportunities, and will run until 21:30.
Alongside the event, usual weekly TrainYAS by Daman’s ActiveLife activities will of course continue where participants can walk, run or cycle around the world famous Formula 1 track in a trafficfree, safe and friendly environment.
The local community is encouraged to attend this free event and can register at www.yasmarinacircuit.com/en/products/whats-ontrack/memorable-givings/.
The event is being organised in partnership with The Mama Bear Club, Beacon of Hope, #theadmovement and Stutter UAE.
One intrepid explorer is preparing for the adventure of a lifetime this autumn – and up to 20 members of the public are invited to go along with him.
Adrian Hayes is leading a life-changing journey, trekking through the last surviving Kingdom of the Himalayas with Gulf for Good from 27 October to 4 November.
The first challenge of its kind in the region, Hayes will lead this week long trek through the mountains, delivering inspiring daily workshops on personal growth, leadership, and team development.
Unlike anywhere else on earth, Bhutan is a mystical kingdom filled with dense forests, impressive mountains, ancient monasteries, and a culture unchanged by and isolated from the modern world; this will be a test of physical fitness as well as an opportunity for self-discovery in a spectacular, unspoiled country steeped in ancient history and tradition.
“This trek is not about summitting Everest; instead about overcoming the ‘Everest’ within all of us,” says Hayes.
“We will be doing some ground-breaking and change-inducing development and self-growth work, suitable for all ages, genders, and backgrounds.”
Hayes is a British record-breaking adventurer, author, speaker, presenter, leadership consultant and campaigner. An Arabic and Nepalese speaking former British Army Gurkha Officer and Special Forces reservist, he has achieved major goals in the past 10 years – Everest, K2, the North Pole, South Pole, the length of Greenland by kite-ski, the Arabian Desert by camel, two Guinness world records, two documentaries and two books.
He will offer insight to challengers on leveraging strengths and goal setting, maximising potential, comfort zones and overcoming challenges, as well as leadership and real teamwork.
Hayes leads this challenge in partnership with Gulf for Good, a UAE-based charity of which he is an ambassador, with challengers raising funds for the Mission Himalaya Children’s Eco Home & Farm in Nepal, a self-sustaining orphanage for abandoned children.
“We are proud to announce this challenge as a real first of its kind in the region,” said Brian Wilkie, chairman of Gulf for Good. “It offers a unique opportunity for people to spend a week of learning and development with Adrian in one of the most beautiful and remote countries in the world. The trek will be physically challenging, but certainly doable by anyone with determination and commitment.”

Celebrate Global Wellness Day with the rest of the world and let all of your problems float away this coming Saturday as part of the Shangri-La Hotel’s take on the free health campaign.
The not-for-profit initiative was established in Turkey as the “first” day dedicated to living well, and since its inception in 2012, the healthy living concept has been accepted worldwide – set to be celebrated in more than 100 countries across 4,000 different locations this year.
And Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, have designed a feel-good programme that will leave you feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready to attack the day.
The hotel has invited tourists and residents in Abu Dhabi to participate in a morning of wellness programmes, and the activities are free to attend for those who register in advance – including hotel guests.
The Global Wellness Day programme kicks off with an early morning session of indoor yoga in the hotel’s health club with Isabel Lourenco, a professional yoga instructor.
The one-hour class starts at 7:30am, and helps participants meditate and relax before they proceed with their day of rest and revitalisation.
Following the yoga session will be a zumba class – a dance fitness programme that involves aerobic movements set to music – at the health club organised by Shangri-La’s in-house instructor, Rosalie Zabala.
Held from 8:30am until 9:30am, this class is specifically designed to encourage an active lifestyle and whether you’ve never tried zumba before or are something of an expert, the hour will be suitable for all skill levels.
To finish off the morning and spreading the spirit of complete wellness, participants will be treated to a healthy breakfast designed by the hotel’s executive chef Mansour Memarian while being treated to breathtaking morning views of the canal weaving into The Souq.
Mansour, who has amassed 21 years of experience in the industry and is a Michelin-starred chef, is responsible for ensuring the hotel’s restaurants and bars serve food that come complete with an extra special touch.
Spaces are limited for the classes and prior registration is mandatory, however, so don’t miss your chance to treat yourself to some time and join a worldwide community taking part.
