Abu Dhabi Cricket has partnered with Gary Kirsten Cricket to deliver a Spring training camp like no other in the region.
Although it started on Sunday, there’s still places for budding cricketers to enhance their skills and knowledge this week.
Running until April 5, the camp will offer an unparalleled cricketing experience for the UAE’s stars of tomorrow, combining the skills of World Cup-winning coach Kirsten and his highly-qualified staff as well as Abu Dhabi Cricket’s team.
It will be overseen by Oscar Nauhaus, who will join Abu Dhabi Cricket’s coaches including Sri Lankan international players Chamani Seneviratne and Melani Abeysinghe.
Whether your child plays the game regularly or wants to take their first steps of learning the sport, the camp is open to all abilities. Kids will be split into different groups according to their ability – beginner, intermediate and advanced.
Nauhas brings plenty of experience having coached for 12 years in various academies across the world from South Africa to India, Sri Lanka and England and now the UAE. He joined the established Gary Kirsten Academy in 2016 to focus on high performance coaching and will implement the GKC coaching techniques in Abu Dhabi. He will not only focus on the youth programmes but also player development at the senior level.
The camp, which runs from 09:00 to 16:00, will consist of coaching in the mornings before kids can test their skills in the afternoon with matches and fun games.
Full day from 09:00 to 16:00 costs Dh750 for the week, while half-days – 09:00 to 12:00 costs Dh550 for the five days. A single day costs Dh170.
Zayed Cricket Academy are no strangers to hosting top coaching programmes and are now one of the best institutions in the UAE.
Teaching girls from 4 to 18, they have enjoyed significant local and international success, most recently in the Under-19 UAE National Academies League for the second year running. Academy players have also won scholarships to prestigious schools abroad and been selected to represent the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the UAE Inter-Emirate tournament as well as the Under-16 and U-19 UAE national team.

Do you think you’ve got quicker feet than former Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea star Nicolas Anelka?
Now is your chance to put your skills to the test against the man himself and prove you’re quicker.
Next month at the Fairmont The Palm Dubai, go head-to-head against the retired France legend and see if you can better his score of 350 steps in 30 seconds (watch here). That’s right, you only have half a minute to surpass his tally at the hotel’s PRAMA by Pavigym Studio.
The ‘fast feet’ training routine isn’t as easy as it looks, and in truth, Anelka makes it looks easy.
Nevertheless, celebrity coach and personal trainer Meddy, who hosts regular fit boxing classes at the resort, is inviting you to try out the state-of-the-art interactive fitness studio session as part of Fairmont The Palm’s BE.YOUR.BEST brand promise.
The #AnelkaChallenge is open to the public, therefore, anyone can come and have a go but you first need to secure your spot via the hotel’s Facebook page or contact email below.
So, what is the incentive to beat the 39-year-old former footballer and Dubai resident?
There’s a huge one. The top three scorers or ‘fastest feet’ are in with a chance of winning some amazing prizes, including a two-night stay within the hotel’s presidential suite, plus an array of fitness class, spa treatment and other prizes.
On the evening of Thursday April 12 itself, meet and greet opportunities will be available with Anelka as the Frenchman watches to see who can eclipse his record!
Snacks and refreshments will also be provided throughout and participants are urged to use the #AnelkaChallenge and #FairmontThePalm hashtags on social media.

The school holidays might well be underway but there’s still time for parents to enroll their children at Zayed Sports City (ZSC) Kids Holiday Camp.
Running until Thursday, April 5, it’s the perfect opportunity for the little ones aged between 5-12 to keep busy with ice skating, bowling, arts and crafts, outdoor group games and tennis being just some of the activities they can look forward to.
ZSC are no strangers to hosting holiday camps with their summer and Christmas editions proving hugely popular. Tony Kouris, general manager of Zayed Sports City, believes their on-going camp will be no different.
“The Zayed Sports City Kids Holiday Camp is growing each season and this is the biggest compliment we could expect to receive,” he said. “Our team puts in year-round efforts to find ways to improve the programming, to engage the kids better, and to ensure that they make memories lasting a lifetime each week. The feedback that we get is positive and we are open to suggestions, which is why we continue to have great success.”

He added: “The camp day starts with some free play while everyone arrives, with options like races, board games, and a reading corner before groups head off to their activities. Ice skating and bowling are the most popular, so we work these into the schedule as much as we can. There are also arts and crafts projects, painting, team-building challenges, tennis lessons with our ZSC Academy coaches, football, obstacle courses and more. Each group will participate in our water-based paintball game Wet ‘N Wild, and we’ve added in a nutrition session with Simple Café this session. There is really too much to list everything, and all of it is guaranteed to be engaging.”
Registration costs Dh1,050 per week, while it’s Dh945 a week for siblings.
With the camp still on-going, Kouris believes there’s plenty of reasons as to why parents should get their children registered.
“Zayed Sports City has worked very hard to ensure that our programming delivers high standards for our participants and their families, and ZSC Kids Holiday Camp fits the needs of parents in many ways,” he said. “We are the first and only camp that has more than nine hours of programming included in the price, and family discounts are available too. Not only is the cost and schedule a great value, but the kids have their physical, social, and psychological needs met daily, making new friends, trying new things and getting active. Overall it is a well-rounded experience for everyone and we are really proud to be putting it on every school break.”
