If you’ve ever experienced the Dubai summer you know there are only a few weeks left before stepping outside becomes somewhat of a chore.
With that said, we teamed up with Decathlon to gather our camping gear and enjoy the UAE’s great outdoors before having to hibernate for the summer. Camping’s not much fun on your own of course, so we invited some of Dubai’s more popular outdoor social media influencers to join us at Al Aqah beach for a weekend of sporting activities.
Before heading out on our road trip, the day begins with us picking up supplies from Decathlon for our beachside adventure. Surfboards, kayaks, snorkelling gear and volleyball equipment is all loaded up as we’re aiming to make the most of the glorious winter weather, before having to retreat to the safety of air conditioning, away from the summer sun. As you’d expect with a car full of influencers – Ghida Arnaout (@monkyseemonkydo), Samia Kallidis (@skallidis), Luke Morris (@islandofluke), and Charbel Zakhour (@wheresmybackpack) – they have their GoPro’s and drones in hand, as we make the journey from Dubai to Fujairah.
“If I’m staying at the beach I always have my sleeping bag, and a headlamp when I go camping” says avid outdoorsman Charbel Zakhour. “Kayaking and racket beach ball are my favourite things to do when I go camping”.
Upon arrival, the group waste no time setting up the tent and sleeping bags before getting straight into the water sports. The setting couldn’t be better with the Indian Ocean flanking us on one side and the Hajar Mountains on the other. Well into their health and fitness our group of social media stars hike through the mountain range, up sand dunes, and around the winding wadis at the foothill of the mountains. As the sun sets, thoughts inevitably turned to food, which is prepared on a gas stove picked up from the Decathlon store earlier in the morning.
Morris said, “I can’t go camping without my paddle board, and volleyball. Paddle boarding is my favourite thing to do and my favourite camping spot in the UAE is Fujairah. There’s a great beach, mountains and a really chilled out vibe so it’s perfect”.
“I love all kinds of sports and if the beach is involved it’s perfect. Camping in Dubai is perfect because it’s secluded and you can see the stars at night”, added Samia Kallidis

Ramadan might well be a month away, but cricketers in the UAE can still play the game and vie for glory during the holy month at Al Ain Cricket Club’s Ramadan T20 Cup.
To run from May 15 to June 13 at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club, the competition is already attracting a lot of interest and with registration closing on May 4, there’s still time to sign up.
It will be the second consecutive year Al Ain Cricket Club will be hosting the event and Umar Afzal Pasha, cricket operations manager, believes next month’s will be a big success.
“We have witnessed the tremendous growth of the competitive teams visiting our club and this is the second Ramadan tournament from the inception of Al Ain Cricket Club,” he said.
“During Ramadan, with the match held at night, it attracts many people who come and watch the matches, while some bring their Iftar.
“The teams who are playing bring a lot of supporters and that creates a really vibrant atmosphere for those who are playing the matches as well as the spectators.”
He added: “By hosting the Ramadan T20 Cup, we want to try and maximise individual and group participation regardless of their ability. There will be a lot of health benefits for the community which improves endurance, stamina, physical fitness and also helps with social interaction.”
Matches will be played on an astro-synthetic pitch with a league format. Each side is guaranteed three matches with entry costing Dh3,000 per side. For the champions, besides lifting the trophy, they will also win Dh6,000 while runners-up will get Dh3,000. There are also personal accolades for the Best Bowler, Best Batsman, Man of the Series and Man of the Match.
Players must be 16 and over and Pasha believes there are plenty of positives for teams to sign up.
“The climate in Al Ain is cooler compared to other emirates while Al Ain is known for being a lush green city,” he said.
“Our club has best cricket wickets for games and practice nets, floodlights to play night matches, while there are restaurants for Iftar and Suhoor, masjid as well as a kids play area.”

With the season coming to an end, don’t miss the chance to enter the final race of the 2XU Compression Run Series.
Taking place on Friday, April 13 at Dubai’s Mushif Park, the run will see you tackle several different surfaces, showcasing the amazing surroundings and facilities of the venue.
Whether you’re someone who regularly exercises or not, the event is open to all abilities with 3, 5 and 10km distances available and split into different age categories. For those who want to push themselves further, then they can sign up for the cross-country half-marathon that will see you run the full 21.1km.
Sanctioned by Dubai Sports Council, the Compression Run Series has gone from strength to strength and organisers Super Sports expect next week’s to be no different.
“Basing the runs out of Mushrif Park will expose runners to scenery and a run course they would never have imagined possible,” said race director Warren van der Merwe. “Mushrif Park has so much to offer with all its internal facilities of male and female swimming pools, equestrian centre, rope course, restaurants and picnic facilities – we want to expose runners to all these as they navigate their way along the tarred, sandy, pebbled, grassed route we have laid out.”
Entry per runner is Dh175 for adults (19 and over) and Dh125 for juniors (18 and under). As part of Super Sports’ vision in getting more people to live a healthier lifestyle, there will be also a discount for family entries for three or more people.
Included in the fee is electronic timing, a 2XU t-shirt, a finishers’ medal, a downloadable certificate and refreshments.
Anamaria Lascurain, 2XU marketing manager, added: “We couldn’t be more excited to host the first ever cross-country half marathon in Dubai for our final 2XU Compression Run of the season.
“We are adding this race to expand the offering of the very popular 2XU Compression half marathon series that already take place in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.”
She added: “Mushrif Park astounds us with its natural beauty and allows us to run on different surfaces including trail and sand. Athletes can experiment the benefits of the 2XU compression to minimise muscle oscillation and micro-tearing.”
