Footballers can lace up their boots after Iftar and take to the field in Sportsmania’s last competition of the season.
Their Ramadan tournament returns on Friday June 8 in Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai and with registration closing next Thursday, there’s still time to join.
Now in its fourth edition, the Ramadan tournament has continued to go from strength to strength and Fouad Ghandour, general manager of Sportsmania, insists this year’s will be no different.
“We have been organizing this Ramadan tournament every year since we opened,” he said. “And every year it’s been a big success with a lot of teams coming to play.
“Last year, we had around 35 teams which was an impressive turn-out and although there’s still a week to go until registration closes, we expect a similar amount or even more.”
Each team can bring as many players as they wish although there must be five players on the field at any one time. With it following a group stage and then knockout, each side is guaranteed a minimum of four games.
Entry costs Dh390 per squad. As well as getting your hands on the winning trophy, there’s plenty to play for with individual and team prizes of up to Dh5,000.
With a few days to go until deadline, Ghandour has urged anyone wishing to enter a team to register today, promising there will be plenty of positives by signing up.
“As it will be held after Iftar, it will be a great time to get together with your friends and family and enjoy a great activity that is loved by everyone,” he added. “The weather will be cool and it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and be in with a chance of winning the final tournament of the season at Sportsmania.”
He added: “Whatever your ability, you can compete and we hope to see many newcomers sign up and see for themselves why the tournament is so highly rated. There is passion and respect among the teams and it’s a tournament any side can win.”

There’s even more reason for footballers to have a kickabout this Ramadan by taking advantage of Abu Dhabi Cricket’s (ADC) 50 per cent discount on their five-a-side football pitches for hire.
ADC’s Soccer City has only been opened for two months but their brand new facility has already been a huge success with plenty of people taking to the field for a fun game of football.
The football pitches are just the latest in a series of improved facility offerings from ADC including two new FIFA-approved floodlit grass football fields, a 40 per cent expansion of the Zayed Cricket Academy and LED floodlighting on the cricket ovals, increasing community cricket capacity by 30 per cent.
The five-a-side pitches fits in line with Abu Dhabi Cricket’s vision of getting more people involved in sport.
Aref Al Awani, general secretary, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “We are thrilled to build new world-class facilities in Abu Dhabi with a view to increasing sports participation here in the emirate. Projects such as these are key to ensuring that the entire Abu Dhabi community is able to participate in year-round sports offerings.”
And Ramadan is no different. Instead of paying Dh300 an hour for a five-a-side pitch, ADC are offering a massive 50 per cent discount, meaning you can play with your friends for Dh150 up until 02:00.
Matt Boucher, CEO of ADC, added: “Initiatives such as these (the football pitches) will remain a priority for Abu Dhabi Cricket and will continue to form part of our long-term strategy as we target audiences from outside of our core cricketing fan base.
“Being a multi-sport facility will enable us to become one of the premier community hubs in Abu Dhabi. My thanks to Abu Dhabi Sports Council and His Excellency Aref Al Awani – their pioneering support towards community sport in Abu Dhabi is unmatched.
“It is thanks to their efforts that we are able to offer more sport here at Abu Dhabi Cricket, ensuring we have a direct benefit on the community and individuals by promoting sport as a lifestyle.”
