While Dubai Sports World rages on at World Trade Centre, the capital’s own version of a sporting oasis has gotten under way at Zayed Sports City.
Residents in the emirate can head down to Abu Dhabi Sports Festival, which runs until August 20 and features sports for all athletes and skill levels.
Whether you’re trying to keep fit in the cool confines of the tents located near the International Tennis Centre, or wanting to get in shape, the festival is the place to be this summer.
Whatever your preference, the festival has you covered with basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, mini-tennis and fitness on offer.
Every day, beginning at 10:00 and going until 16:30, Open Play sessions will be held, allowing children aged four to 16 the chance to take part in different activities and sports. Children under 16 must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
While football is available all day long, volleyball, basketball and table tennis take place from 18:00 to 23:00, when adults can sink their teeth into the action on the court and pitch.
Before or after getting active, make sure to also fuel up with food and beverages from Costa and Simple Cafe.
There is no entrance fee to get into the festival, but the prices vary by activity.
Open Play sessions are Dh21 for children, while their parents or guardians can get in for free. Football pitch hire costs Dh300 per hour, whereas volleyball and basketball bookings cost Dh50 per hour, and table tennis is Dh25 per hour, up to four people.
There’s no need to book for Open Play sessions, but for football, volleyball, basketball and table tennis, booking in advance is recommended to ensure pitch or court availability. You can also book at the door as long as the pitch or court you want to play on is free.
