Registration is still open for the Fujairah Run, taking place this Friday, November 23, being organised by the National Bank of Fujairah PJSC (NBF).
Taking place in the scenic emirate of Fujairah, the race is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah.
Now in its second year, the Fujairah Run is open to the public, attracting fitness enthusiasts and adventure-seekers alike across a range of distances and age groups, all set against Fujairah’s stunning mountain backdrop.
The runs include a 3km fun run, as well as 5km, 10km and a new 11km mountain trail route. There are male and female categories across junior and adult divisions for all distances.
A brand new addition to the event this year will be a new category for people of determination, which will be free entry for these participants.
Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top five winners across each class. In addition, great cash prizes totalling Dh245,000 will be awarded to UAE residents and nationals that come out on top in the 5km, 10km and 11km races.
Valid UAE identification cards will be required in order to receive the awards. Details regarding exact reward amounts can be found online.
Everyone who completes the run will receive a special medal for participation. The run also promises fun for the entire family, with a variety of entertaining activities split into four zones.
During the run, participants will experience Fujairah’s history and natural beauty with the run set against its spectacular sandy beaches and the rocky Hajar Mountains.
The 11km trail run will be a first not just for Fujairah but for the whole of the UAE, as it is the first competitive run route to take place directly through a mountain range.
Other prominent landmarks covered in the routes include a 17th century-fortress and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the second largest in the country.
Commenting on the return of the event, Vince Cook, CEO of NBF, said: “We are thrilled to be back and I am personally looking forward to seeing our second NBF Fujairah Run get underway as we welcome back our running community who continue to seek the next challenge.
“We are grateful for this year’s returning runners who make this event a possibility and are excited for the new participants to experience not only the health and lifestyle benefits that running brings but, also most of all the chance to see first-hand the unique cultural heritage and historic scenery of Fujairah.
“I am particularly excited by the addition of two new and exhilarating run categories, the 11km mountain trail route, which will be a truly unique scenic experience for those competing, and one for people of determination who show great courage in their own lives on a daily basis.
“We look forward to welcoming runners of all ages and fitness levels and expect this event to witness higher participation than last year.”
Registration for the event is still open for individuals, families and businesses. Registration closes on Wednesday, November 21, at 23:59.

With the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) entering its final stretch, UAE residents continue to enjoy the plethora of activities being organised all over the city.
The Challenge aims to get residents active for 30 minutes every day, for 30 days – helping boost not just physical health and fitness but also mental well-being.
The Challenge has something for everyone and if you have children aged between five and 15, then you will love the unique offering being presented by Walt Disney.
The first-of-its-kind partnership between DFC and the Walt Disney is keeping the youth in Dubai active and engaged with the help of an exclusive 30-minute workout video featuring some of the world’s best loved Disney, Disney-Pixar and Marvel characters.
Children in the specific category can head down to one of four DFC Fitness Villages across the city to access the exclusive video which is also available on Youtube.
The exclusive ‘30×30 with Disney’ video brings the worlds of Disney, Marvel Studios and Disney-Pixar together in a fun, free and easy-to-follow workout format, which allows kids to be experimental and try various twists and turns without constraints as they create their own versions of their favourite character’s signature dance moves.
The video is inspired by moves from well-known Disney and Disney-Pixar characters from animated movies like ‘Aladdin’, ‘Mulan’, ‘Frozen’ and ‘Monsters Inc.’, as well as everyone’s favourite superheroes The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man and Black Panther from the much-loved Marvel Universe.
Set to dynamic and immensely popular soundtracks from Shakira’s Try Everything from Zootopia to We Belong Together by Randy Newman from Toy Story 3 and the theme from Marvel’s The Avengers, the series is structured in three-parts of 10-minute segments each so kids have a familiar and upbeat way to get dancing, skipping and jumping their way to fitness.
By the end of the 30-minutes, kids can feel a sense of achievement and understand that fitness can be both magical and fun.
Schools across Dubai will also be using the ‘30×30 Disney’ video to get their students active and involved in the Dubai Fitness Challenge, thanks to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and Ministry of Education.
The exclusive video is already proving to be a great hit with kids as they get to work out with some of their favourite characters. And in the spirit of DFC, it is all free. So if you have children aged between five and 15 and are looking for a fun activity to get them more fitter and active, the time to sign up is now! The Dubai Fitness Challenge is running until November 24.

With a little more than three weeks to go, excitement is building ahead of ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon which takes place on December 7.
The race is open for all categories and will be held over a 42.195-kilometre course that will showcase the landmarks of the capital to a global audience.
In recognition of the Year of Zayed, the race will bring together professional athletes, novice runners and thousands of people under one umbrella, offering them a chance to participate in a series of events from 2.5km and 5km fun runs, to the 10km and full-distance marathon.
The stellar field will include the new world half marathon record holder, Abraham Kiptum from Kenya, as well as Ethiopia’s Gelete Burka, the world champion at the 2006 IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
Also in the elite men’s section will be compatriot Stanley Biwott, winner of the world-renowned 2015 New York City marathon. The 26-year-old earned his first major marathon victory that year, crossing the line in 2:10:32.
Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Romaithi, chairman of General Authority for Sports, said the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon is the latest addition to the ever-growing list of international sporting events to arrive in Abu Dhabi.
“It may be the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi, but it will be second to none among established international marathons around the world,” he said. “We expect a world-class elite field and participation of thousands of runners at various levels.”
His Excellency Aref Al Awani, the general secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, added: “The UAE is proud to welcome elite athletes from across the globe to join us for the inaugural ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon.
“These athletes are at the top of their game and we hope it will inspire the wider community to take part in the different race categories.”
Participants will begin the marathon outside the ADNOC Headquarters, on Abu Dhabi’s famed Corniche, and follow a route towards the Emirates Heritage Village.
They then make their way around Marina Mall, along King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud street, and on to Qasr Al Hosn, one of Abu Dhabi’s oldest and most beautifully maintained stone buildings.
The final stretch of the race runs through Mina Zayed, before returning to ADNOC HQ.
The full line-up of runners will be announced at a press conference on December 6 and will be attended by the athletes.
There is still time to join in and take part in the various race categories. For more information visit www.adnocabudhabimarathon.com.
