Children can learn a new sport during the spring break holiday and get into the swing of things at Yas Links’ junior golf lessons. Held at the lush greens in the nation’s capital, the course will run over the Easter holidays from Sunday, April 5 to Wednesday, April 8 from 09:00 to 13:00 every day.

With the Masters – the year’s first golf major – just nine days away it’s the perfect time to get the little ones into the game on one of the Middle East’s best and most picturesque golf courses.

The lessons will be taught by two PGA professionals, including Anthony Buchanan, to give kids the full introduction into the game of golf.

From the proper grip to driving and putting, the lessons will cover as much as possible in a relatively short period of time. Whether children attend just one day or come for all four days, there will be plenty going on to keep the lessons fresh and ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience.

“It’s really about just making it more fun, having more games and skill challenges and things to make it as fun as possible,” Buchanan said. “Obviously it’s quite a while, four hours. We don’t want the kids just standing there, hitting golf balls the whole time. That would be boring. We’ll mix it up and do as many different things as possible.

The perfect foundation: Lessons start with the basics, such as the correct grip and stance.

“There are so many different aspects to the game of golf. It’s not just using one clubs or certain clubs. We’ve got the par 3 course, which is really good.

“We can go out and play some holes on there and play some shorter holes for the younger ones and the older ones can play the full-length course. We’ve got the swing studio and get the kids in there on video, which is pretty cool.

“We also have a few competitions and obviously the kids enjoy that, playing against their mates and trying to beat them.”

Depending on the numbers that sign up, the lessons will have a group for younger kids who are complete beginners and another group for older, more experience kids.

The cost, with lunch included, is Dh200 per day or Dh600 for the full week. Secure your spot soon as there is room for eight kids in each age group, filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
