  • Fun day out: Track days.

Test your driving and riding abilities in one of the UAE’s most modern motor circuits when Dubai Autodrome hosts their Track Days this month.

Open to novice and advanced riders and drivers, you can experience how fast your vehicle goes without the constraints, restrictions and invariable risks that you would find on public roads.

Given the popularity of previous Track Days which have been a huge success since the Autodrome opened in 2004, there are different dates to choose from.

For bikes, sessions take place on May 8 (novice and advanced) and May 15 and 29 (both advanced). For those who want to drive their cars, then the Autodrome is open on May 7 and 23 (novice and advanced) and May 15 and 29 (only advanced).

While participants must hold a valid driving licence, drivers or riders who wish to take part in the ‘advanced’ categories, must either be in possession of a full driving licence and taken part in a novice session at Dubai Autodrome, hold a current competitions licence or show proof of a confirmation letter stating you have participated in Track Days at other motor clubs.

    Safety first: Controlled conditions.

First-timers, who have not participated in a Track Day, must enroll in a novice session.

The NGK Racing Series, Hanook 24 Hours and the UAE Sportbike Championship are just some of the top events that Dubai Autodrome hosts every year and it’s no surprise that Track Days have been a huge success.

“It’s one of our most popular events at the Dubai Autodrome,” said Paul Velasco, communications manager at Dubai Autodrome.

“The unique thing is that it’s not about racing on the track. Instead it allows drivers and riders to see how good and how fast their vehicles can go in a controlled environment.

“Safety is paramount for us and there will be manned marshalls as well as CCTV on all corners. They will be put in different groups and go out on the track for four 15-minute sessions.”

Riders must wear full leathers and boots with compulsory measures on all bikes to have front facing light and must be fastly secured to the front for the motorcycle. And wearing a helmet, which can be hired for Dh50, is also mandatory.

All this will be worth it, as Velasco says it will be an experience to remember.

“It’s something that people will enjoy,” he said. “I would describe it as an adrenaline rush. When you drive your vehicle fast on a motor race track, it’s definitely an adrenaline you’ll like for sure.”
