  • Immaculate: Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club.

It’s been a busy summer of tournaments at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club and up next for them is the Ramadan Midweek Open Golf Championship.

So far 21 golfers have signed up for this Thursday’s competition – an 18-hole Stableford event, open to all UAE amateurs with a handicap index limit of 28. And you can still join them with registration closing tomorrow.

Their Centro Sharjah Ramadan Open Golf Championship, held earlier this month, was a huge success and this week’s tournament looks to be no different.

“It’s been a very successful event since we introduced it into our tournament calendar,” said Mark Ruddy, golf events manager at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club.

“We will usually stop hosting an event if we don’t get big numbers but this isn’t the case. It’s very popular. It’s a good way to see the players test themselves at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club.

“The big thing for us is that a lot of the players can interact with each other and make new friends and can hopefully play with them in the future.”

Open to men and women, the field is limited to 56 players, with gross and divisional prizes up for grabs as well as accolades for the overall champion and champion in the ladies category.

Entry fees vary between Dh65 to Dh250 with the competition open to juniors, Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club members, Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) members as well as visitors.

Additionally, those who purchase the Preparation Pass for Dh400, can get unlimited golf course and academy access – starting from tomorrow until Wednesday.

Golf carts and dinner is also included in the entry fee. This year will be the sixth edition and Ruddy promises it will be one not to be missed.

“Our previous competitions have been hugely successful and we are very much looking forward to see the players out on the course as they battle for glory on Thursday,” he added.

“It will be a fantastic event. The golf course is in fabulous condition after some maintenance work. It will be a great day out for the players and it will be very unique as they will be playing under the lights when it gets dark.”
