Whether you’re an experienced runner or a beginner, here’s the chance to be involved in a charity run where your participation will help not just yourself, but others as well.

The Aloft Runs for Children ADNEC returns on Friday, September 18, for its sixth edition. Taking place at ADNEC Exhibition Centre, Khaleej Al Arabi Street, Abu Dhabi, adults and children will run around the 2km-per-lap course in an event which has gone from strength to strength.

You can choose from three different distances – 6, 10 and 20km – with morning and afternoon start times. Additionally, there is a children’s run, fastest lap and the unlimited distance. If you want to compete as a team, the relay option is also available, where up to 15 runners can participate as a group.

    Adults taking part.

Last year’s event was a huge success, with all proceeds going to UNICEF towards providing clean water facilities to children in Africa and the Middle East. And next month’s edition will serve the same purpose.

“Our aim for the Aloft Runs for Children is to offer residents and running enthusiasts a fun and friendly day of running while our objective is to raise Dh65,000 towards Starwood’s Road to Awareness charity initiative by supporting UNICEF’s W.A.S.H programme which provides clean drinking water and proper sanitation facilities for children and families across Africa and the Middle East,” said Michel Nader, general manager of Aloft Abu Dhabi.

“When we held this last year, it was very successful indeed as we have previously raised Dh50,000 and year over year we are able to generate more money for the cause through sponsorship and fund collection from the registration of runners.”

With some great prizes up for grabs including trips, weekend breaks and stays in one of many Starwood hotels worldwide, Nader is encouraging people not to miss out on the race.

“As this event is for all types of fitness levels, there is no minimum requirements to participate. What really matter is to have fun while supporting aid for children in the Middle East and Africa,” he said.

“Through UNICEF’s W.A.S.H programme, we remind ourselves that a small contribution can make miracles which are just basics for us, like having access to drinkable water to survive and clean water to be able to avoid diseases. It’s a bonus that while helping with these miracles, participants can also get active and have fun as a community.”

Entry fees start from Dh25 depending on the category and registration closes on September 16.
