  • Arshad Khan produced spectacular golf at the tough Faldo course of Emirates Golf Club to win the Orient Travel Golf Challenge, supported by Tourism Malaysia.

Playing a consistent tee-to-green game, Arshad carded an impressive 40 points to beat his nearest rival, Bayer Khan, by two points in this much anticipated annual corporate event, which attracted a strong field once again.

The foursome of Nanthavan Sukkhasantikul, Bayar Khan, Satnam Kaur and Abdul Moiz Khan combined effectively to take the team honours with 82 points, two ahead of the second-placed team which comprised Alex Andarakis, Shekar Reddy, Mohammed Darwish and Anil Kumar (80 points).

Reddy and Bayer Khan also won the nearest to the pin prizes on holes second and eight respectively, while Soumaya Salem took both the longest drive prize up for grabs on fifth and 16th hole.

Lakdawala reigns supreme Reigning Dubai Creek Club Champion Bayhan Lakdawala made four birdies and shot a superb four-over par 75 to win the annual Thomas Pink Dubai Creek Men’s Back to Black tournament.

As always for this event, and the only time it happens in the year, the course is set up from the back, black tees. This, along with tight pin positions and quick greens provide a tough challenge for the field in the windy conditions.

Lakdawala commented: “It is great to have won this prestigious event. I would like to say a big thank you to the sponsors Thomas Pink along with all of the staff at the Creek for their efforts in making this event such a success.”

UAE National team player Abdullah Al Musharrekh also put in a solid performance and finished runner-up with a 7-over par 78. Dubai Creek Vice-Captain Tejan Fadlu-Deen beat fellow member Mark Williams to third place on a nine-hole countback after the pair finished on 79.

Taking home the net champion trophy was Mandeep Vohra who carded a net 68. Janish Khurana finished just two shots back and took the net runner-up spot with a solid 70. One shot behind was Mansour Khodjasteh on level par net 71.

Robbie Greenfield, on the par-5 fourth and Mike Robson on 12th won the Longest Drive prizes, while Ashok Kumar (eighth) and Vohra (16th) were nearest to the pin.

Al Badia Golf Club’s inaugural ‘Jack and Jill’ tournament proved to be a huge success with the members following a team stableford format with a twist. The best two from four scores were counted with teams comprising three Jacks and one Jill.

There was some pressure on the ladies as it was mandatory that their scores be counted on all four par 3s. Taking top honours in the event with an astounding 93 points were Kate Evans, playing the role as ‘Jill’, and the ‘Jacks’ David Evans and Sergio Casari.

As they were short by one ‘Jack’, a ghost card was pulled at random which accounted for an additional eight points, giving them the lead by one point. The team carded nines of 48 and 45 racking up big points on the par 5 eighth hole and par 4 14th thanks to the paired efforts of a net eagle and net birdie.

Zhendong Tan and Carol Baldwin were the Nearest to the Pin, while Antony Su and Martha Bimmel hit the Longest Drives.

In the A Division (handicap 0-14), it was Naema Maya who took the top honours with a great net score of 70. Her gross score of 82 also secured her the overall best gross for the day. Maya’s scorecard included 10 pars and a birdie 4 on the par-5 11th hole.

In the runner-up spot was the in-form Catherine Clark with a net 73.

Nina Larm had seven pars on her way to a best of the day 66 to triumph in Division B (handicap 15-23). The Bronze Division (handicap 24-42) was won by Sue Hopwood with a superb 67.
