  • All smiles: Henrik Stenson tops the DP World Tour Championship leaderboard in Dubai.

World No. 104 Rafael Cabrera-Bello put together a sensational round of seven-under par 65 to catch up with defending champion and world No. 4 Henrik Stenson on top of the DP World Tour Championship leaderboard on Saturday.

The Spaniard was red-hot with his putter as he needed just 21 putts to complete his bogey-free round that contained seven birdies. His was the lowest round of the day for a second successive day following the 64 on Friday.

But if he has to join the rare club of only two players (Stenson and Alvaro Quiros) to have won both the Dubai-based European Tour events, he will have to beat one of them. And Stenson was once again showing enviable form as he shot a solid round of 68.

The leaders were on 14-under par 202 after 54 holes, three clear of Justin Rose, who leads the chasing pack at 205 following a round of 68.

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy should have been in the mix, but rare back-to-back double bogeys from the 2012 champion gave him a round of two-under par 70, thus tying him for fourth place at 10-under par with France’s Victor Dubuisson (67), England’s Tyrell Hatton (68) and Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen (69).
