  • Flying high: Carly Booth takes a plunge at Skydive Dubai in order to raise money for the Special Olympics.

Marathons, triathlons and tricky hikes in far-flung lands: These are the most traditional choice of sporting pursuit when philanthropists wish to raise money for a good cause.

Not for Ladies European Tour golfer Carly Booth. A gymnast in her youth in Scotland, Booth is known for her energetic approach to the game and can be regularly seen doing black flips when warming up before a day’s play.

It is therefore unsurprising that when the two-time Tour winner decided to raise money for Great Britain’s Special Olympics, she chose a slightly more daring activity than most.

Booth’s brother Paul has Down Syndrome and has qualified for the Special Olympic World Games, so after completing her final tournament of the year at the Dubai Ladies Masters, Skydive Dubai seemed like a perfect fit.

We caught up with Carly bright and early at the launch-site near Dubai Marina and while just the sight of her fellow adrenaline junkies preparing for their death-defying plunges gave me sweaty palms, she was all smiles and clearly couldn’t wait to get going.

Carly smashed her target of raising 1000 GBP and her page can be found here
