The MENA Golf Tour this week makes its much anticipated debut at the award-winning Banyan Golf Club for the MahaSamutr Masters.

Sponsored by PACE Development Corporation, the event will see a strong field spearheaded England’s Zane Scotland, who currently leads the Tour’s Order of Merit, and Venezuela’s Wolmer Murillo, last week’s winner at Mountain Creek, battle it out for top honours from May 17-19.

Scotland has already won twice this season and has taken his total number of titles to 11 since the inception of the Tour, making him the most successful star of the MENA Golf Tour. He did not play last week’s event at Mountain Creek.

Home to several major events such as the national BMW Championships finals, Banyan has the distinction of winning Asian Golf Monthly awards for three successive years in an apt recognition of its world-class facilities.

Designed and constructed by Thailand’s leading golf course architect, Pirapon Namatra of Golf East, Banyan at Hua Hin was also featured in the Top 1,000 courses in the World by Rolex.

“We are extremely excited to have this opportunity to host the MahaSamutr Masters at our club, which is a welcome addition to Thailand’s growing portfolio of world-class events,” said Stacey Walton, Director of Banyan Thailand, Hua Hin.

“We feel honoured that the MENA Golf Tour has placed its trust in us and we will strive to deliver a memorable week for its members. Events like this will further stimulate interest in golf and turn the region into a golfing force.”

Mohamed Juma Buamaim, chairman of the MENA Golf Tour, was equally upbeat about the success of what he called an important stop for the Tour in Thailand.

“We are delighted to be coming to Banyan Golf Club for our second event in Thailand. With so many prestigious tournaments happening out there, Thailand is ideally placed to capitalise on its unique position as a diverse and high quality golfing destination,” he said.
