  • If you’re a golfer who enjoys practicing your shots on some of the courses in the UAE and want a challenge to test your abilities, then why not take part in the Noor Bank Sharjah Cup Open championship?

The UAE is fortunate to have some of the finest golf courses in the world and the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club (SGSC) is among the best in the country.

The SGSC will be hosting the fourth edition of the Noor Bank Sharjah Cup Open. While the tournament is for amateurs, the competition level will be of the highest calibre on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5.

With the SGSC expecting a field of more than 80 players, you will have to be at your very best to claim the honours come Saturday afternoon.

Golfers will have the option to play on Friday in either the 07:30 or 13:00 shotguns with the priority to qualify for Saturday.

The event will have amateurs feeling like professionals as there will be a cut at the half-way stage, meaning there is everything to play for from your very first shot and no room for error. The cut will see the best 52 players compete on Saturday while the others will be eliminated from the tournament.

But those who are no longer in contention can enjoy watching the action unfold at the clubhouse for what promises to be a thrilling final day. The Open is primarily a net event, however it will include gross prizes for the lower handicapped golfers.

As well as crowning the overall winner, there will also be additional prizes including awards for the runner-up and third-place finishers. There will also be prizes for the ladies champion and for leading scorers on both days, meaning everyone always has something to play for even if they are off the pace.

“The tournament will be competitive and exciting for all golfers. We are running the tournamenthow it’s played on the professional circuits which will be full of drama on both days,” said Ben Derbyshire, head golf professional at SGSC.

“The previous editions of the competition have seen a lot of golfers take part. The field was strong and it’s been positive. It will be another strong field this year with around 80 people expected to compete.”

Entry fees for SGSC members are Dh385 and Emirates Golf Federation members (EGF) will be charged Dh565. Visitors will pay Dh625, while a tournament pass that includes entry fee and unlimited golf course and academy access (inclusive of cart hire) between Sunday and Thursday costs Dh875.

The tournament is open to juniors with members being charged Dh220, while non-members will pay Dh320.

Can you cope with the pressure and make the halfway cut? If so, you have until Thursday, April 3 to get yourself registered by contacting the golf reservations team at SGSC on 06 548 7777 or email [email protected].
