UAE golf round-up: Nair imperious in Falcon Thursday win

    Rishi Nair produced the performance of the evening with a superb winning score of 20.5 net (gross 22) on the Palm Par 3 course to win the Junior title of the April edition of Falcon Thursday events at Dubai Creek Golf Academy with Asanka White runner-up on 1-over par 28 (net 26.2). 

    The Ladies Division was a much closer battle with Glory Xavier taking the top spot with a solid gross score of 31 to win by one over Dubai Creek Lady Captain Paula Savage.

    One shot was also the difference in the Men’s Division as Vivek Sharma, with a 32, beat Michael Nielsen.

    Jehaan Nanavaty took top honours with a solid score of 47 on the Pearl Putting course, while Ben Tobin finished runner-up on 48.

    Rahman bids farewell in style with stunning win
    Ikhlas Rahman, representing the Malaysian Golf Federation, said farewell to the UAE in impeccable style as he produced the round of his life to win the Noor Bank Sharjah Cup.

    With only 52 golfers able to make the cut and play on the second day, the competition was fierce.

    Rahman, who is leaving for Malaysia after four years in the UAE, was one of 30 golfers within six points of Day 1 Leader YD Kim, and despite going out in 20 points, he still had work to do on the back nine.

    Showing no signs of nerves, he shot an impressive 22 points for a total of 42.

    Irishman Shane O’Neill (EGF) pushed on from his opening 33 to return a one-under second day 37 to take the runners-up prize.

    Third spot went to junior golfer Mukhzar Mehmood (SGSC) who managed to pip Sanjoy Das (SGSC) and the Day 1 leader Kim (SGSC) by virtue of recording a better second day score of 34.

    Ahmed and Yousuf shine in Al Ain
    Dubai’s Ali Ahmed and Khalid Yousuf were the big winners in the final UAE National Monthly of the season, which was recently hosted by the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting, & Golf Club (AESGC).

    Ahmed was the runaway winner as he stole the show with 40 Stableford points, comprising of 19 points on the front nine and an even better back nine of 21 points.

    Coming in second place was Akram Skaik, also of Dubai, with 35 points, while another Dubai-based player, Mohammed Al Banna, finished in the third spot with 34, which included 20 on the back nine.

    Yousuf shot a brilliant round of 73, two-over-par, to win the overall gross championship on his way to also winning the Longest Drive competition.

    Sohail Al Marzouqi won the Nearest to the Pin competition on the sixth hole, while the Skaik family walked away with two first-place prices and one second place prize.

    Ahmed Skaik, with 33 points, won the Division A title, while Hassan Al Marzouqi won the Division B prize with 34 points.

    In the Junior Division, which was played over nine holes of stroke play, Mahmood Skaik captured first place with an impressive 52, while Tara Al Marzouqi of Abu Dhabi missed glory by one shot and had to be content with the runners-up prize.

    The next national event will be the Dubai Duty Free UAE Nationals Cup that will be hosted at Emirates Golf Club on May 3.
