  • Painful experience: Wang Jeung-hun.

Wang Jeung-hun would do well to look back at what transpired over the closing two holes of the inaugural Dubai Open as a learning experience. Any other way would be too painful for the 19-year-old Korean.

Leading the tournament by one shot over champion Arjun Atwal, Wang three-putted for a bogey on the 17th hole, and then cut his second shot into the native area right of the 18th green of The Els Club, clearly the no-go area of the par-5 hole.

Atwal, who also made a bogey on the 17th, birdied the 18th while Wang settled for a par and handed over the tournament to the veteran Indian ace.

“I had a lot of pressure. I just tried my best. I don’t have any regret. I think I did my best,” said Wang. “I just tried to play my game, but I could not do that over the closing stretch because of the pressure.”

Speaking of the three-wood second shot on the 18th, Wang said: “I tried to cut the shot into the green, but I made a poor swing. I was just trying to control the ball.”

Wang, who did not miss a single cut this season and finished 21st in the Asian Tour Order of Merit, said: “I’m still happy with my season. I hope to learn from this.”

In the top-60 fight on the Order of Merit to earn playing rights for 2015, Aussie Jake Higginbottom fired a superb 64 for tied fourth place which pushed him up from 65th to 53rd place while Thailand’s Namchok Thantipokakul finished tied 19th to move up one rung to 60th place for the last Tour card of 2015.

“I knew I had to go out there and go low to try to keep my card. I played well. I felt I played well all week but just couldn’t get anything into the hole. It was nice to hole a few putts today. It’s either back to Q-School or not, so I had nothing to lose,” said Higginbottom.
