    I had the pleasure of working with personal trainer and all-round fitness guru Farley Letigio.

    After a thorough assessment before the session, I discussed the areas of my body I wanted to focus the workout around and started off with a series of core drills, such as traditional planks, side planks, squats and crunches.

    I completed three sets of these, partaking in each of the exercises for one to two minute bursts at a time with rest periods in-between.

    I then moved to the chin/dip push-up machine – which is a valuable bit of kit for any gym.

    Here, I rested my forearms on the two padded areas and pushed my back into the cushioning – supporting me while off the ground.

    I went through a series of knee and leg raises, as well as side bends, to engage and test the strength of my abdominal muscles.

    The exercises were also great for the gluteals, ensuring they were worked, as often they are a key muscle group that runners neglect.

    Farley, who I would highly recommend given his vast experience, knowledge and fine-tuned technique, was fantastic throughout the session. He took me through numerous upper-body drills before ending the workout with a rigorous stretching regime.
