Don’t fall into common gym-goer traps:

    1) GETTING DISTRACTED?

There’s a statistic going round that one in three people don’t even work up a sweat in the gym. What is the main reason for this, you may ask?

More and more people are spending too much time on their phone in-between workouts and catching up with friends – meaning the session becomes less intensive and less productive.

You’re better off to spend a tough 30-45 minutes in the gym, working at a strong intensity with no phone to look at – rather than two hours of broken up exercises which ultimately will make you more fatigued.

    2) COPYING OTHERS

When the person next to you is lifting heavy weights or running hard on the treadmill, it doesn’t mean you have to do the same. Everyone is different so do what is right for you.

It can actually be to your detriment to copy someone else, particularly if their fitness level is higher than yours.

    3) INCORRECT TECHNIQUE

It’s a common feeling to be sore after a tough gym session or to pick up a slight strain or injury after heavy-lifting. Often, the common cause of this is incorrect technique.

If you are unsure how to use a piece of equipment properly or complete a certain exercise, ask a gym instructor and seek help to make sure you are doing everything correctly.
