  • Top treats you thought were all bad.

There’s plenty of information and nutritional advice out there which tells us what to eat and what not.

And while it’s sensible to get to grips with what’s good and not so good for your body, Sport360 has taken three foods, widely recognised as ‘bad for you’, and unearthed some of their healthy qualities.

And with the holiday season coming up, these tips might stand you in good stead.

    PEANUT BUTTER

Yes, it contains high fat content but a tea spoon or so is only around 30 calories.

Plus research has shown that eating peanuts can help your heart – and as a result actually lower your total cholesterol levels.

So fear not when you spread butter onto your morning toast.

    PIZZA

Let’s get the facts straight – having a whole pizza (12-inch, stuffed crust, perhaps) isn’t too good for you but less is more in this case.

The base of a pizza is actually fairly rich in carbohydrates and if you have a meat topping (protein) and some vegetables, as well as some cheese (fat), you are ticking all the right food groups.

OK, it’s not the healthiest but you get the picture.

However, if you homecook and use a wholegrain base, low-fat mozzarella, tomato sauce and plenty of vegetables – then that’s a healthy pizza right there!

    CHOCOLATE

And finally, everyone’s Christmas favourite – chocolate!

Of course chocolate isn’t low in calories or fat but dark chocolate, especially, carries with it health-promoting antioxidants which can boost your internal systems and mop up any atoms that cause cell and DNA damage inside the body.

Dark chocolate can also help your sweet cravings and a few small squares can give you that calorie boost you need, rather than pigging out on a whole bar or other sweet treats.
