When you think of Dubai Muscle Show in 2019, one of the first things you’ll think of is strongman.
The annual quest to find the Middle East’s strongest man and women has become a blockbuster attraction at the event, growing year on year.
But if we cast our minds back to just 2016, we can see the acorn this mighty oak grew from.
With the Muscle Show in its original setting of the International Yacht Club the Emirates Strength team went about devising a strongman event for the show.
The setting was stunning, and supported by Warehouse Gym – where many of the athletes trained, the event quickly turned into a crowd please.
With a deadlift, farmers’ walk, atlas stones, and overhead events the crowds were soon attracted, pulled in by the magnetism of the spectacle.
The crowning glory of the competition? A visually spectacular yacht pull – with competitors strapped in to a harness, dragging a yacht behind.
Justin Perry would be the man to lift the title, at the end of the grueling competition – showing his ability to not only lift heavy but have the gas tank of a crossfit athlete to get over the line against some tough opposition.
Things look very different today – with a spot at the Arnold Amateur and World’s Ultimate Strongman up for grabs for the open class winner.
