  • One of the toughest and most famous running events in the region, the Wadi Bih Run, is set to return for the 28th edition on Friday, January 31 as organisers launch a new route between Dibba on the Omani coastline into the Hajar mountains.

Held since 1993, one of the longest running events in the region will offer solo distances of 30km, 50km and 72km, as well as the original 72km team relay and 50km family relay race.

If you’re a roadrunner or take part in half marathons, the 30km distance will suit you best and offer a challenge on a different terrain.

The course for the 50km will follow the 72km route, while the 30km distance will see competitors ascend steep zigzag bends through cliff and the Musandam peninsular mountains. Marathon runners will be familiar with the distance.

Throughout all the distances, the race will have numerous checkpoints to provide support for runners with water and electrolytes.

A camping area will be prepared at the start, within Golden Tulip Hotel’s grounds, that will be open to participants in the event the night before race day and a small recreational village will be set up at the venue, which will include a lunch area, an activation zone, pool access, recovery areas and more.

Race Director Neil Young said: “The Wadi Bih Run continues to be a hugely popular highlight on the running calendar due to its dramatic off-road routes.

“The solo races have grown from a few extreme athletes attempting ‘something different’, to becoming the ultimate regional long-distance running challenge with stiff competition.

“We urge entrants to register soon to avoid disappointment for this fantastic weekend.”

Make sure to register by the deadline of Wednesday, January 23 or sooner as places can sell out.
