England restricted South Africa to 267-7 at the end of the first day’s play at the Wanderers and will be hoping to pick up early victims on day two.
England currently hold a 1-0 series lead after victory in the opening Test but were surprised by the resurgent hosts in the second match before it ended in a draw.
The visitors will win the series with victory, while South Africa would set up a winner-takes-all fourth and final Test in Centurion.
