  • Shooting for glory: Saif bin Futtais won the World Cup in Cyprus in April.

A trio of UAE shooters will commence their campaign in the ISSF Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun World Cup in Gabala, Azerbaijan – the final World Cup of the season.

Saif bin Futtais, Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum and Mohammed Ahmad are all in action in the men’s Skeet competition.

Bin Futtais won the World Cup in Larnaca, Cyprus last April to earn the UAE a quota place at next year’s Rio 2016 Olympics and there is another opportunity for other shooters to claim another spot for the Emirates at the Games.

A nation may earn a maximum of two spots in each of 15 Olympic events.

Olympic bronze medallist, Nasser Al Attiyah of Qatar, is also present in a strong Skeet field headlined by reigning Olympic champion Vincent Hancock of the United States.

The skeet competition will be completed over two days, with the finals taking place tomorrow while other disciplines are scheduled over the course of the coming week, with the World Cup concluding on August 16.
