  • If you love watching high speed racing, then you may want to consider heading to the Dubai Autodrome on Friday, where the final round of the 2013-14 UAE National Race will bring an enthralling season to a close.

The previous seven rounds have provided great entertainment for the spectators, and tomorrow’s action will be no different, especially when organisers are giving free entry to the public.

Two categories are still to be decided – Class Two of the NGK Series and the UAE Sportbike Championship, meaning the spectators will be on the edge of their seats as the competitors compete on the track.

In Class Two, Honda driver Jonathan Mullan tops the standings with 222 points, ahead of fellow Honda driver Rupesh Channake who is 14 points adrift and Gulf Petrochem Renault driver Alexandros Annivas 20 points off top spot.

In the UAE Sportbike Championship, Liberty Kawasaki rider Abdulaziz Binladen heads into the final two races with 250 points, with reigning champion Mahmoud Tannir 20 points adrift but, crucially, with dropped scores that is narrowed down to just eight points.

The track action starts early with qualifying for the UAE Sportbikes at 09:50, with NGK racing Series following on and scheduled for 10:15.

Spectators won’t have to wait for long for the actual opening races of the day, however, as the first of two UAE Sportbike races take place at 11:00, with the first NGK Racing Series race to be flagged off at 11:45.

Paul Velasco, communications manager at Dubai Autodrome, says it’s an event you’d be mad to miss – especially with plenty still at stake with regard to the season’s final standings.

“It’s motor racing at a national level and it’s not one to be missed as two championships will be decided on the day itself,” said Velasco.

“People will have to wait for a long time after this as the new competition won’t start until October.”

And even if you are not an avid fan of motorsport, you get so close to the protagonists at the Autodrome it provides a real thrill for all spectators.

“The cool thing about this level of racing is that anyone can go and mingle and chat with the drivers,” added Velasco.

“They will be able to get real close to the drivers and car. On that level, it offers that type of access you wouldn’t get at most racing events.”
