  • Alex Connor has confirmed his return to the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost grid for 2020 at Arden Motorsport.

The 15-year-old Dubai native enjoyed a promising start to his junior single-seater career in 2019, with consistent points culminating in a maiden pole position and overall podium finish at the Brands Hatch season finale.

Connor also secured the vice-champion spot in the Rookie Cup with five class victories and an additional 17 podiums; the aim this year is to convert that form into the overall championship, in which he finished ninth last season.

He has since claimed a first victory in F4 machinery, winning in Yas Marina last November as the F4 UAE Championship made a guest appearance at the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Connor, along with new team mates Frederick Lubin and Roman Bilinski, will also continue to benefit from huge trackside crowds and live, free-to-air ITV4 coverage as the championship continues to support the British Touring Car Championship.

His second campaign in Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series will begin at Donington Park, Leicestershire, over the weekend of 28-29 March, 2020.

“I am really excited to be racing in the British F4 Championship with Arden again this year,” said Connor.

“I learnt so much last year about the car, the tracks and the racing and now, after good off-season testing and fitness programmes, I’ll be pushing hard.

“My relationship with Arden last year was really good and so it was an obvious choice to re-sign for the 2020 season and build on that.

“This championship always attracts very good drivers so it’s very important to be consistent and challenge in every race to have a strong championship – which is my goal.”

Arden’s F4 Team Manager Gary Ward underlined his happiness at retaining Connor for 2020, and is looking forward to more headline results in the year ahead.

“I am delighted that Alex is re-joining Arden for the 2020 British F4 campaign,” commented Ward.

“I have been involved with Alex since karting to F4 and I’m very pleased with how quickly he’s adapted to the demands of the championship and the car, despite having to miss the season-opener in 2019 due to age restrictions.

“Last season was very promising from Alex, not least taking the Vice-Champion honours in the Rookie Cup. Another highlight for me was the double pole-position and maiden podium at the Brands Hatch season finale. Hopefully we’ll have more highlights to celebrate in the season ahead!”
