    Spanish Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo earned the pole position for Sunday’s Czech Republic MotoGP in Brno after setting a new circuit record in Saturday’s qualifying session.

    Reigning champion Marc Marquez, on a Honda, and championship leader Valentino Rossi, Lorenzo’s Yamaha teammate, will complete the front row.

    The 28-year-old Lorenzo, the 2010 and 2012 champion, clocked 1min 54.989sec on the 5.4-kilometre (3.36-mile) circuit in the southern Czech city, wiping off his own record from Saturday morning’s practice.

    Fellow Spaniard Marquez, the 2013 and 2014 champion, stayed just 0.074 seconds behind Lorenzo while the Italian star Rossi trailed Lorenzo by 0.364 seconds.

    Rossi leads the overall standings with 195 points after 10 out of the season’s 18 MotoGP races, ahead of Lorenzo with 186 and Marquez with 139.
