Ferrari team principal Marco Mattiacci has revealed he would love to see Ross Brawn back at Maranello.
Brawn left Formula One at the end of last season after four years as team principal of Mercedes as he did not want to form a part of the new management structure. Although it is understood Brawn has effectively retired from F1 on a permanent basis, his name continues to be linked with jobs.
Mattiacci is now the latest to make overtures towards one of the most decorated men in the sport's history. Notably, as technical director of Ferrari for a decade from 1997-2006, Brawn helped the famous marque collect six consecutive constructors' titles and five successive drivers' championships with Michael Schumacher at the wheel.
In an interview with CNN, Mattiacci said: " Ross Brawn is an iconic figure at Maranello.
"Everyone would like to have Ross, or would like to see, Ross back at Ferrari. "He's one of the most respected personalities in F1 with the highest knowledge and pedigree. Everybody would be happy with someone like Ross."
Mattiacci has confirmed speaking with Brawn in general "several times", including when he visited the factory earlier this year.
Believing current technical director James Allison would benefit from some assistance, Mattiacci added: "James is the technical director and I want to start from this point. "To tango you have to have two. Maybe Ross is happy with what he is doing."
