The Dubai Creek Striders gathered a huge turnout for a “very special” early morning run on the streets of Dubai on Friday in tribute to the recent passing of local triathlon icon Roy Nasr.
Nasr, a former Arab Triathlon champion, local entrepreneur and father of two, had been training for Ironman South Africa in April 2014 when he was hit by a car and killed in the early hours of last Friday while out cycling. His death sent shock waves through the UAE’s sports community.
Friday’s run saw all taking part wear fluorescent shirts to mark his death as well as to promote safety of those who participate in road-based sports.
DCS committee member Marek Szymanek had told Sport360° prior to the event: “What we are hoping to achieve is to have at least something positive come out of it, if that’s at all possible; and that is to raise safety awareness.”
