They don’t call him Magic for nothing, as the former point guard was one of the most unique players to ever grace a basketball court.
Blessed with a rare combination of power forward height and a playmaker passing ability, Johnson, who turns 57 today, carved up the league with the “Showtime” Los Angeles Lakers during the 1980s.
In 13 seasons in Hollywood, Johnson won five titles and was named Finals MVP on three occasions. He also earned the NBA’s MVP three times, was a 12-time All-Star, nine-time All-NBA First Team player and was part of the Dream Team that won gold at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.
He finished his glittering career with near triple-double averages of 19.5 points, 11.2 assists and 7.2 rebounds. Johnson is an inductee in the Hall of Fame and has his No. 33 jersey retired by the Lakers.
