    One of Everton’s all time greats, Neville Southall celebrates his birthday on September 16.

    In his prime he was one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world and helped Everton to the Eueopean Cup Winners Cup, two League titles and two FA Cups.

    He played a record 93 times for Wales and made a club record 750 appearances in all competitions for Everton.

    He was also awarded the Football Writers’ Player of the Year in 1985 and in 1995 was given an MBE for his services to football. In December 2004 he was voted number one all-time Everton cult hero.

    1953: Manuel Pellegrini, former Manchester City manager (63).

    1966: Asanka Gurusinha, Sri Lanka’s former batsman and winner of the 1996 World Cup (50).

    1966: Kevin Young, 1992 Olympic 400metres hurdles champion from USA (50).
