  • The Dubai Dragons.

With just three games to play in the 2013/14 AFL Middle East season, competition is beginning to hot up as the Dubai Dragons stand on the verge of something very special.

However, the Doha Kangaroos are certainly in a position to spoil the Dragon’s party.

The Dragons have completed their six home and away games, so it now falls on the other teams to scramble for positions over the coming weeks.

Having managed to win five of their six encounters, many by large margins, their only blemish was a loss to rivals the Dingo’s in the Dubai Derby.

While the Dragons are top of the table, the Doha Kangaroos sit second with three wins from four outings. The boys from Qatar now have two matches left against third placed Abu Dhabi Falcons and fourth placed Dubai Dingoes.

Both matches are winnable, and if they win both by large enough margins they could actually topple the Dragons.

But were that scenario to occur, the Dragons would still be favourites to emerge victorious in the Grand Final, having defeated Doha the last two times they have played them.

In fact the Dragons will be bidding to win their third crown, but it will be no easy task if they face the Kangaroos who will be out for revenge having lost in the final last year.

Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi Falcons and Dubai Dingoes will fight it out for third and fourth place this season. The Dingoes have two games to play, whilst the Falcons have just the one.

The Muscat Magpies have only one win all season, while the Bahrain Blues are leaving the competition indefinitely.

Let’s hope that the finals series later in March brings an exciting end to what has been an sensational AFL Middle East season.
