  • Pakistan fast bowler and former UAE coach Aaqib Javed had his greatest moment with the ball on this day back in 1991 in the Wills Trophy final against India in Sharjah.

Pakistan batted first and put up 262-6 on board. In the chase, the Indians started cautiously against Wasim Akram and Imran Khan, moving to 32 for no loss.

But first change bowler Javed tore through the India line-up, picking up a hat-trick of lbws – Ravi Shastri, Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar – in his third over to put Pakistan on top.

He needed up with match figures of 7-37 to seal the title. Those were the best figures in one-dayers until Muttiah Muralitharan bettered it in 2000.

More memorable events on this day:

1980: Mike Weaver KOs Gerrie Coetzee in 13 rounds for the heavyweight boxing title.

1982: David Hookes hits 100 off 34 balls for South Australia against Victoria in Adelaide – the fastest recorded century in first-class history.

1983: West Ham became the first team to score 10 goals in a League Cup match, beating Bury 10-0 in a second-round, second-leg match.
