  • Although he would never claim a Super Bowl, few would question Dan Marino’s place in the pantheon of outstanding NFL quarterbacks.

The Miami Dolphins-stalwart would cement his legacy on this day, 21 years ago when he threw his 343rd touchdown pass, breaking Fran Tarkenton’s record.

Marino led a prolific offence from 1983-99, racking up huge figures throughout his career.

This breakthrough day would come in a 36-28 defeat against Indianapolis Colts, with the recipient of his pass being running back Keith Byars.

Marino would keep on adding his statistics, retiring four years later with 420 touchdowns under his belt and 61,361 total passing yards.
