A strong West Indies side took on India in the final of the one-day Hero Cup in Kolkata. The Windies were in a strong position after asking India to bat first and restricting the hosts to 225 for seven.

But during the chase, India’s spinners came into their own. Leg-spinner Anil Kumble started the slide as he rattled the stumps of Roland Holder, leaving the visitors five down for 101. From there, it was all downhill for the Windies as Kumble ended up taking six wickets for 12 runs.

Incredibly, all his wickets cost just four runs and came in a 26-ball spell. India easily won the final by 102 runs. Those were the best ODI figures by an Indian bowler before Stuart Binny took 6-4.

1946: England beat the Netherlands 8-2 in Huddersfield with Tommy Lawton scoring four goals. This remains

the only time the Dutch have conceded eight goals in an international.

1966: In the highest scoring NFL game, the Washington Redskins defeat the New York Giants 72-41.

2014: Australian batsman Phillip Hughes tragically dies at the age of 25 after being struck by a bouncer on the side of the head during a domestic Shield game in Sydney.

Roberto Mancini turns 51 today and will have plenty of time for celebrations as he’s currently unattached after being sacked by Inter Milan this season.

The Italian won the Serie A with Sampordia and Lazio during his playing career while he secured three consecutive league title wins for Inter during his first spell as manager of the club.

Mancini took over Manchester City in 2009 and delivered their first Premier League title in the 2011-12 campaign in dramatic fashion.
