  • Good morning, David Cooper here with everything you need to know in the world of sport.

    TOP STORY

England laid down a marker for next year’s World Cup by sealing a one-day international series triumph over India with a performance captain Eoin Morgan called “clinical”.

Having thrashed Australia 5-0 last month, the top-ranked ODI side in the world claimed a 2-1 series success over India – their first over that opponent since 2011 – by recording an eight-wicket win in Tuesday’s decider at Headingley.

It was achieved in style, with 33 balls to spare, as Yorkshireman Joe Root reached a record 13th ODI century with a four that he celebrated with a ‘mic-drop’ of his bat.

England had lost the first game of the series by eight wickets but had responded with two mammoth victories of their own that suggested they may be favourites for a 2019 World Cup on home soil.

    FOOTBALL

Liverpool and Real Madrid are set on shaking up the goalkeeping ranks for Europe after launching respective bids for Alisson and Thibaut Courtois.

Several British newspapers reported on Tuesday that the Reds had made a £62 million offer for Roma and Brazil No1 Alisson, but that the Serei A outfit wanted £66.5m.

Elsewhere, Manuel Pellegrini believes that West Ham’s record signing Felipe Anderson gives the team a new dimension.

Anderson signed for a reported £33.5 million, potentially rising to £42 million, from Lazio on Sunday.

In other news, Daley Blind has completed his move from Manchester United back to former club Ajax, declaring on his Twitter feed that it is “time to go home.”

    CRICKET

England thumped India by eight wickets in the decider at Headingley yesterday to capture the three-match ODI series 2-1.

Eoin Morgan’s side simply outclassed the visitors in all departments at Leeds as they made up for the disappointment of losing the T20 series.

After restricting India to 256-8, the hosts ran out comfortable victors as they notched up the target in just shy of 45 overs.
